Fusion Theatre Press Release
Fusion Theatre Inc. presents Boxxed In
Myth and mystery mix in Fusion Theatre’s brand new production Boxxed In opening in December
This two part production explores the human condition from intriguing angles. Ideas of social control and freedom are developed in the first part Breaking Free of My Other Self , directed by Galit Klas. The characters, under the control of a mysterious and nasty boss, seek to find their own ways to freedom and self reliance.
The second performance, Museum Mythica, directed by Jo Raphael, moves the audience through time as it explores the big questions humans have asked in the process of becoming civilised. The actors breathe life into myths of ancient Greece and Rome and reveal the ways that the stories that guided those societies are strangely familiar today.
Fusion Theatre Inc is a company of actors with disabilities in the City of Greater Dandenong. Twenty five performers take part in the production. The performances are original and devised by the company. Workshops and rehearsals take place at the Dandenong Community Arts Centre. People interested in joining the group can contact company artistic director Larry Boyd on 0411 052 389
Five Students from Deakin University who are studying in the areas of Drama and Education have also been working with the company and developing their skills in developing community theatre. Director, Jo Raphael, also lectures in drama education at Deakin University.

A bit more about Museum Mythica
Something mysterious is going on in Museum Mythica. The statues tell stories but not as a visitor might expect from sculptural objects. The museum guide and her colleague, the cleaner, begin to suspect that something is not quite right or is it?
In 2006, as part of the Drama Australia VINE project, Fusion Theatre’s Dramability performing group has explored the IDEA congress theme for 2007 - ‘Planting IDEAS - with our thoughts we make the world’. We considered that the process of becoming civilised human beings involved the forming of questions in the minds of the first humans. Along with the need to have answers, to understand and to remember came story or myths- mythos means story. In an original ensemble performance devised by the actors, Dramability breathes new life into four ancient Greek and Roman myths and places them within the mysterious, and somewhat musical, Museum Mythica.
